The mountains at Grand Teton National Park are big and bold and in your face. They rise straight up from the valley floor with no rolling hills to soften their approach. One of the most popular places to see the sunrise in the park as it brightens up this jagged skyline is from Oxbow Bend on the Snake River.
We ended our tour of East Africa with two days on the island of Zanzibar, off the coast of Tanzania. After almost two weeks of driving through game parks and seeing so much wildlife, sitting on the beach for a day felt like I had been transported to a different world, even though it was just a short flight away. I love to watch sunrise and sunset on a beach. Since our hotel was on the island’s east coast, in this case it meant getting up early to see the Zanzibar sunrise. Definitely well worth the early morning wake up call.
Our first African safari – a dream come true. My husband and I had been planning this trip for over a year and had included all of our wish list items. The only optional excursion offered on our tour was a hot air balloon safari in the Masai Mara. We decided to opt in for this activity, though I was very apprehensive going into it. I have a huge fear of heights and I was not sure if I would be able to handle the ride without getting a bad case of vertigo. I was really torn, because this would be a once in a lifetime activity and there was no turning back once it started.
Bear Lake is a popular, easy half mile hike in Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. Towards the end of September, the mountains around the lake start to glow as the aspens change their color from green to gold. The scenery is particularly beautiful in the early morning. Going early also has the added advantage of avoiding the majority of the crowds that flock to this part of the park to hike the many popular trails in the area.
As the sun rises, it casts a golden glow on the high mountain peaks overlooking the Swiftcurrent River in Glacier National Park, Montana. A perfect example of why it is important to continue to protect the natural beauty of our National Parks and National Monuments.
