PhotoPOSTcard: The Colorful Dhows on Dubai Creek

Most of the dhows on Dubai Creek looked a little worse for wear, like the one on the left. I am sure all the resources and energy go into loading and transporting goods. One of the exceptions, was the dhow on the right which really stood out with its freshly painted exterior, showing the true colors and details of what a dhow should be. I especially liked how the hanging laundry coordinate so well with the colors of the painted trim on the dhow.

PhotoPOSTcard: A Frame on Downtown Dubai

Dubai’s newest (for now) big attraction is a 300 foot tall picture frame. After walking through displays showing old Dubai, an elevator whisks you up to the top where you get panoramic views of old Dubai on one side and new, downtown Dubai on the other. The elevator then whisks you back down to displays of a fantastic future Dubai.

PhotoPOSTcard: All that Glitters IS Gold in Dubai

Another unique Dubai experience is to wander around the Gold Souq area along Dubai Creek. The window displays are full of extravagantly large gold pieces. For most of us it is about window shopping, but for some, it is about buying.

Finding Old Dubai – A Walk Along Dubai Creek

Take a walk along Dubai Creek and explore its two sides to find remnants of old Dubai. It is along the shores of Dubai Creek that the area was settled in the 1830’s, and it is here where I was able to still find some examples of traditional Dubai. On the south side of the creek is the Bur Dubai neighborhood where I explored the Al Fahidi Historical area, the Dubai Museum and the Bur Dubai Souq. Then, after taking a ride across the creek on a traditional abra to the northern Deira side, I explored the exotic Spice and Gold Souqs.
