Most of the dhows on Dubai Creek looked a little worse for wear, like the one on the left. I am sure all the resources and energy go into loading and transporting goods. One of the exceptions, was the dhow on the right which really stood out with its freshly painted exterior, showing the true colors and details of what a dhow should be. I especially liked how the hanging laundry coordinate so well with the colors of the painted trim on the dhow.
Dubai’s newest (for now) big attraction is a 300 foot tall picture frame. After walking through displays showing old Dubai, an elevator whisks you up to the top where you get panoramic views of old Dubai on one side and new, downtown Dubai on the other. The elevator then whisks you back down to displays of a fantastic future Dubai.
Wondering where to stay in Dubai? With so many luxurious accommodations to choose from, the many options can be daunting. In a city filled with extravagant 5+ star hotels, the small, boutique XVA Art hotel in the historic Al Fahidi district of Dubai stands out for its elegant simplicity and unique art decor. The facility hosts a hotel, an art gallery and also a gourmet vegetarian cafe. But most importantly, it’s a serene refuge in a city that can feel a little too busy at times. A stay at this unique property provides a quiet retreat in an environment that feels both creative and authentic.
Another unique Dubai experience is to wander around the Gold Souq area along Dubai Creek. The window displays are full of extravagantly large gold pieces. For most of us it is about window shopping, but for some, it is about buying.
