PhotoPOSTcard: All That Glitters is Gold at Jerusalem’s Dome of the Rock

Jerusalem’s Temple Mount and the rock on top of it is a sacred site to both the Jewish and Islamic faiths. In Judaism, the rock is where Abraham was preparing to sacrifice his son Isaac. For Muslims it is the location from which Muhammed started his journey to heaven. The octagonal Dome of the Rock which sits atop this Foundation Stone was built in 691 CE, though it has been rebuilt a few times since then. Visitors can tour the outside of the Dome of the Rock during non-Muslim prayer times, but cannot go inside unless they are Muslim. Even just seeing the outside, it was a beautiful structure to visit.

Photo Location – Chicago skyline at dusk.

Home is where the heart is. I grew up in Chicago and though I have been away now for over 25 years, it still feels like home every time I go back. At the same time, our current house, where we have lived for the past 25 years, is just as much my home. For the first time in many years, we are not traveling over Thanksgiving. We are staying at home and staying safe and that is something I am quite thankful for at this time. What are you thankful for today?

Stay safe and thanks for visiting.

Photo Location – Women’s Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial in Washington DC.

This is my favorite memorial around the Washington DC Tidal Basin. It touches me as a woman and a mother like no other sculpture does. Let’s not forget the many women and nurses that should also be remembered and celebrated on this Veteran’s Day.

The Best Day Trip From Cleveland: Cuyahoga Valley National Park and Other Local Sights

A visit to Cuyahoga Valley National Park is an easy day trip from Cleveland, Ohio.

One of my travel goals is to visit all of the National Parks in the US. As I continued my Midwest road trip through Ohio, I was happy to add another stamp in my National Park Passport. My short stop in Cleveland gave me a quick taste of this revitalized city. But most important, the day trip from Cleveland to Cuyahoga Valley National Park let me add another checkmark in the visited column of my National Parks list.

PhotoPOSTcard: Finding Chihuly in Indianapolis

A few years ago on a Midwest road trip I stopped in Indianapolis and indulged my Chihuly glass art obsession. I visited the Indianapolis Children’s Museum primarily to see Chihuly’s Fireworks of Glass and Pergola Ceiling. This is one of his signature inverted chandelier designs that is over four stories tall and has 3200 pieces of glass. I also had fun exploring the museum which is one of the best children’s museums in the country and is also the biggest in the world.
