If Midtown is the heart of Manhattan, then 42nd street in New York City must be its main artery. It’s only a two mile walk from the East River to the Hudson River on this historic lane, but you pass through a handful of defined neighborhoods in the process, each with its own distinctive flavor. You also pass by some of the city’s most iconic and decorative buildings, both old and new.

A long weekend getaway to the Finger Lakes in the Fall is the best way to discover wines for every taste, cute small towns and plenty of history and scenery.
One of my favorite experiences was discovering the area around the Finger Lakes in the fall a few years ago. My husband and I chose a long Finger Lakes weekend getaway in mid October and found that to be a wonderful season to explore the region. Whether you are looking for a long weekend away, a scenic road trip, or just want a getaway that offers a variety of activities, I think the Finger Lakes has it all. There are wines for every taste, cute small towns to discover and plenty of history and scenery to enjoy.

It is no secret that I love to travel. It is one of the reasons I started this blog. Travel experiences stimulate me mentally and physically. When I travel, I relish focusing only on the here and now. And the more I travel, the less I see any distinctive differences between me and the other 7 billion people that inhabit this globe. For this year though, all of my best laid travel plans have gone up in smoke. Yet, despite the fact that some destinations are opening up to Americans, I am not just asking myself whether I can travel this year, but also whether I should travel.

Visiting Niagara Falls, NY is so much more than just seeing the impressive water falls.
Cool off on a hot day as the wind sprays mist in your face. Feel the raw power reverberate through your body as millions of gallons of water flow by so close that you can practically touch it. Taste award winning wines and beers. Or walk in the footsteps of revolutionary war soldiers or escaping Civil War slaves. A long weekend in Niagara Falls, NY gave me all these sensory experiences and so much more.

This is the classic view you get of Horseshoe Falls from the Canadian side of Niagara Falls. The majority of Horseshoe Falls lies in Canada, but with the erosion over the past 400 years since the falls were discovered by Europeans, a corner of Horseshoe falls now also sits on American soil. To get a wet and really up close perspective of these falls, you can take a boat ride from either country: the Maid of the Mist on the American side and Hornblower Niagara Cruises on the Canadian side.

Remembering and honoring today all those that died – both in wars and due to Covid 19. And also remembering my mother who passed away on Memorial Day last year. Her favorite saying after emigrating to the US was “God Bless America”.

All great cities have an iconic structure that identifies them at a glance. Paris has the Eiffel Tower. London has Big Ben. And San Francisco is easily recognized by its Golden Gate Bridge.

I love to watch sunrises and sunsets over water. But since I am not much of a morning person, sunsets on the west coast are my favorite. This one was especially dramatic as the tide was going out at Asilomar State Beach on the Monterrey Peninsula in California. I was there for a quilting class with the Empty Spools Seminars program and the spectacular beach sunsets were a bonus.
