The Island of Miyajima is best known for the large floating tori gate in its harbor and for the Itsikushima shrine which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. One of the buildings that make up the Itsikushima compels is the Toyokuni Shrine which has the nick name “Hall of One Thousand Tatami Mats” because of its large size.

PhotoPOSTcard: Maroon Bells Reflection at Sunrise

The Maroon Bells claims to be the most photographed spot in Colorado, which is not surprising as it is a perfect mountain setting reflected in a clear and pristine lake, all of which is easily accessible from a parking lot not far from Aspen. To capture the perfect sunrise shot, expect to share the shoreline with a few hundred other photographers, especially during peak aspen color season. We may all have gotten the same photo that day, but what a beautiful photo.

PhotoPOSTcard: Bear Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park

Bear Lake is a popular, easy half mile hike in Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. Towards the end of September, the mountains around the lake start to glow as the aspens change their color from green to gold. The scenery is particularly beautiful in the early morning.  Going early also has the added advantage of avoiding the majority of the crowds that flock to this part of the park to hike the many popular trails in the area.

PhotoPOSTcard: Moon Rise Reflection Over Sagamore Lake in the Adirondacks of New York

New York state’s Adirondack mountain region is dotted with lakes and thousands of acres of preserved recreational land. It became the playground of the rich and famous during America’s Gilded Age. For the Vanderbilt family, Lake Sagamore was their vast private retreat in the wilderness of this mountain region.

The full moon rise is partially hidden by the clouds. Photographing in black and white produces an eerie look that seems more appropriate for Halloween than early Sept.
