Quilt Inspirations – For my recent trip to Greece, I chose a simple, classic Greek key design to make this easy, modern-looking quilt in shades of white and Aegean blue.
Inspired by the typical Greek photos of Santorini with its white buildings and blue domes, I knew those would be the colors I would use in my Greece quilt. And since my dream, luxury Greek Island cruise with the beautiful sailboat Running On Waves, was going to be stopping for a day at the island of Santorini, I knew that was where I wanted to photograph this new creation.

To make this quilt easy to put together, I cut my own 5-inch squares, in essence making my own charm packs, using Moda Bella Solids in white and sapphire. The design did sew up quickly, which is what I needed.

Of course, as is my usual habit, I had to do something interesting on the back that also would tie in with my Greece trip. I’ve wanted to try the quick curves ruler I had recently purchased, so I used it to make a few trial curvy blocks, which I used as a filler. I almost like the modern, minimalist look of the “back” better than the “front”.

You can find more examples of my quilt backs on my post 19 Ideas For A Unique Pieced Quilt Back.
Once again, my friend Cindy Carey of North Star Longarm Quilting did a fantastic job. I think the quilting really adds to the piecing design on both the front and the back.
I’ve written up the instructions for this pattern, and it is now available on my Etsy site Quiltripping Etsy shop – Greek Key Pattern. In the pattern write-up, I have also included mockups with different colorways, including a scrappy layout.
