Quilt Inspiration – This Burano Sampler quilt was inspired by the many colorful houses on the island of Burano in the Venetian Lagoon. Each of the houses on Burano is painted a different bright shade, so that as you are walking through the town, it feels like you are in the middle of a big box of crayons.
My Burano Quilt
Each block is made up of 4 half-square-triangles set in a different orientation in each of the 64 blocks that make up the quilt. I thought the black and white sashing and border acted as a nice contrast to all the bright colors.
For the back, I used all the leftover half-square triangles combining then to form asymmetric columns which produces a very modern look. The multicolored binding used up all the leftover fabric.
The beautiful custom quilting was done by Cindy Carey of North Star Longarm quilting.
The quilt was photographed on the island of Burano, Italy, one of my favorite destinations in Italy.
Thanks for visiting.
