Taking a traditional abra ride across Dubai Creek from one side to the other is probably the most authentic and least expensive Dubai experience you can have.
An abra is a wooden motorized boat that holds about 20 passengers. A 10 minute one way crossing costs 1 dirham, or about 25 cents. When the boat is full, which usually only takes a few minutes, it leaves and the next one pulls up in its place to load up. You pay the driver in cash once you are on board. The crossing is smooth, efficient and before you know it, you are on the other side. It’s a great way to get a different perspective on the older parts of the city lining both sides of the creek.
