My stay at the Blue Bay Hotel was the luxury Halkidiki resort experience I was looking for to relax and rejuvenate during my extended Greece road trip.

When I travel, I have the tendency to just go, go, go because I want to experience as much as I can each day. But I can only do that non stop for about two weeks and then I need a few days vacation from my vacation to recharge my batteries.

Midway through my monthlong trip in Greece this past summer, I had two very pleasant days at the Blue Bay Hotel on the Kassandra peninsula in the Halkidiki region of northern Greece.

Beyond the Ruins at the Archeological Site of Philippi, Greece

The UNESCO listed Archeological site of Philippi preserves and exhibits the remains of three diverse periods of Greek history that span 1600 years – Hellenistic, Roman and Christian.

All parents hope that their children will be more successful than they are. But in Philip II of Macedonia’s case, his achievements are always overshadowed by one of Europe’s most notable historical figures, Alexander the Great. During my visit to Greece, it seemed that every discussion about the Macedonian king always started with ” Philip, the father of Alexander the Great, …..”

“All I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by”  John Masefield

There wasn’t just one star, but rather, a pantheon of constellations blanketing the sky as the last rays of the setting sun disappeared over the horizon. To the east, a slim crescent moon was slowly rising out of the sea with the same grace as the goddess of love in Botticelli’s painting. A slight breeze and the gentle back and forth rocking informed me that our ship was under way. My dream Greece sailing tour had started.

PhotoPOSTcard: Delos Island, Greece

Day 2 of my cruise with Running On Waves started on the island of Delos. The ancient Greeks believed that it was here that the god Apollo and his twin sister Artemis were born. This belief made the island sacred and as a result, no mortal was allowed to be born or die there. One of the unique sights in Delos is the Terrace of the Lions which originally had about a dozen sculpted lions which were dedicated to Apollo by the people of Naxos in around 600 BCE. The island is one big archeological site and was named a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1990.

Thanks for visiting.
