Photo Location – Women’s Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial in Washington DC.

This is my favorite memorial around the Washington DC Tidal Basin. It touches me as a woman and a mother like no other sculpture does. Let’s not forget the many women and nurses that should also be remembered and celebrated on this Veteran’s Day.

Thanks for visiting.

The Best Chicago Street Art – Finding Murals, Sculptures and Other Public Art in the Windy City

The best Chicago street art comes in many forms – and it is free.

Growing up in Chicago I used to spend my teenage summers hanging out along the lakeshore, biking swimming and sunning. Sometimes I would spend my day at one of the many sandy beaches, but more often than not, I would just bike the length of the rocks along the lakefront. Those large limestone blocks were put in place in the early part of the 20th century to prevent erosion but they eventually became a canvas for local want-to-be artists who covered them with cans of spray paint and multi colored paint brushes. This was the Chicago street art of my youth.

The Best Day Trip From Cleveland: Cuyahoga Valley National Park and Other Local Sights

A visit to Cuyahoga Valley National Park is an easy day trip from Cleveland, Ohio.

One of my travel goals is to visit all of the National Parks in the US. As I continued my Midwest road trip through Ohio, I was happy to add another stamp in my National Park Passport. My short stop in Cleveland gave me a quick taste of this revitalized city. But most important, the day trip from Cleveland to Cuyahoga Valley National Park let me add another checkmark in the visited column of my National Parks list.

Discovering Artistic Indianapolis – My Favorite Things to Do in Indy

Discover the best of artistic Indianapolis with this list of the best things to do in Indianapolis.

Not long ago I took a road trip down memory lane with a tour around the Midwest. Since I only had two days, I decided to experience artistic Indianapolis, of which there were quite a number of choices.

PhotoPOSTcard: Finding Chihuly in Indianapolis

A few years ago on a Midwest road trip I stopped in Indianapolis and indulged my Chihuly glass art obsession. I visited the Indianapolis Children’s Museum primarily to see Chihuly’s Fireworks of Glass and Pergola Ceiling. This is one of his signature inverted chandelier designs that is over four stories tall and has 3200 pieces of glass. I also had fun exploring the museum which is one of the best children’s museums in the country and is also the biggest in the world.

A Walk Down 42nd Street in New York City – Let Me Take You There

Take a walk with me down 42nd street in New York and discover 100 years of history and architecture in the heart of the city that never sleeps.

If Midtown is the heart of Manhattan, then 42nd street in New York City must be its main artery. It’s only a two mile walk from the East River to the Hudson River on this historic lane, but you pass through a handful of defined neighborhoods in the process, each with its own distinctive flavor. You also pass by some of the city’s most iconic and decorative buildings, both old and new.

Escape on a Getaway to the Finger Lakes in the Fall

A long weekend getaway to the Finger Lakes in the Fall is the best way to discover wines for every taste, cute small towns and plenty of history and scenery.

One of my favorite experiences was discovering the area around the Finger Lakes in the fall a few years ago. My husband and I chose a long Finger Lakes weekend getaway in mid October and found that to be a wonderful season to explore the region. Whether you are looking for a long weekend away, a scenic road trip, or just want a getaway that offers a variety of activities, I think the Finger Lakes has it all. There are wines for every taste, cute small towns to discover and plenty of history and scenery to enjoy.

Beyond the Waterfalls – Visiting Niagara Falls, USA

Visiting Niagara Falls, NY is so much more than just seeing the impressive water falls.

Cool off on a hot day as the wind sprays mist in your face. Feel the raw power reverberate through your body as millions of gallons of water flow by so close that you can practically touch it. Taste award winning wines and beers. Or walk in the footsteps of revolutionary war soldiers or escaping Civil War slaves. A long weekend in Niagara Falls, NY gave me all these sensory experiences and so much more.

PhotoPOSTcard: The Classic View of Horseshoe Falls

This is the classic view you get of Horseshoe Falls from the Canadian side of Niagara Falls. The majority of Horseshoe Falls lies in Canada, but with the erosion over the past 400 years since the falls were discovered by Europeans, a corner of Horseshoe falls now also sits on American soil. To get a wet and really up close perspective of these falls, you can take a boat ride from either country: the Maid of the Mist on the American side and Hornblower Niagara Cruises on the Canadian side.
