Drinking tea is an important part of the Turkish culture and is also an important aspect of their hospitality towards guests. Traditional Turkish tea is brewed strong and is served in a clear, tulip shaped glass with a few sugar cubes on the side.
Turkish tea is grown in the Black Sea region of Rize. The tea is traditionally made in a two tiered tea pot. Water is heated in the lower portion of the pot. Then the tea is seeped in the upper portion of the pot with some of the boiling water. The tea is then served in the tulip shaped glass and diluted with additional hot water to taste.
Trying a glass of Turkish tea should be a part of any visit to Istanbul.
