Offering over 30 restaurants, bars, and lounges, the Sun Princess had plenty of choices for food and drinks. This post is all about the many drink options on this stunning new ship, and includes the various bar, restaurant, and cocktail menus.
I cruised on the Sun Princes in the Caribbean on a long overdue mother-daughter trip. With a diverse selection of food, drink, and entertainment on board, this was the perfect Princess ship for both an energetic 30-something young woman and her (somewhat) older and more sedate mother.
For each cruise I evaluate which Princess fare and drinks package is best for that particular trip. On this cruise we both had the Princess Premier package which worked out great for trying all the specialty restaurants and the many unique cocktails on board the Sun.
Along with the bars, the specialty restaurants and specialty dining experiences also had their own unique beverage creations that were fun to try. The bars could make all the usual mixed drinks that are popular, but they also had menus for specialty cocktails and mocktails. We would each order a different drink which made it fun to taste twice as many flavor combos without imbibing all that alcohol (and calories).
For non alcoholic beverages that were included in the standard fare, the Eatery buffet provided drinks stations with coffee, hot tea, water, iced tea, and lemonade.
Food and drinks are a personal preference – everyone likes something different, and I think the Sun Princess offered a lot of choices for all tastes. I share my full review in my post Here Comes the Sun – A Complete Sun Princess Review With Photos and Tips for the Best Cruise.
The Princess Patter listed each day’s opening times for all the bars, lounges, and restaurants.
Review of the many Sun Princess bars
Deck 7
Good Spirits at Sea
Tucked around the corner from the forward elevators, Good Spirits at Sea was a cozy little bar where the mixologists put on a show with special cocktail demos (times were listed in the Princess Patter). Good Spirits had its own menu of cocktails from around the globe that were fun to try. I really enjoyed the Espresso Martini.
This was also where I had the special Royal Afternoon Tea on a sea day.
Princess Live!
Princess Live! was a popular entertainment venue that had a variety of activities and performances going on throughout the day, as well as its own bar. I spent a fun few hours here trying my hand at BINGO while enjoying one of their cocktails. I didn’t win, but I had fun and the drink was good.
O’Malley’s Irish Pub
Serving up food, drinks, and entertainment, this intimate, Irish themed, pub style bar had it all. The bar featured drinks made with Grace O’Malley whiskey, along with a variety of beers on tap. I really enjoyed the musical performances as well.
Bellini’s Cocktail Bar
Located next to the Piazza, Bellini’s was a very popular spot for drinks, especially their Italian inspired craft cocktails. I really liked the signature Tiramisu cocktail.
Coffee Currents
Though serving mostly coffees and sweets, alcohol was available here as well. Or how about some Kahlua in my coffee? Yes please!
The Catch by Rudi
Along with the wonderful food at The Catch by Rudi, there was also a collection of unique cocktails and other beverages to compliment the special dishes developed by Princess’ head of culinary arts, Rudi Sodamin.
Crown Grill
Princess signature steak restaurant also had its own drinks menu. My daughter chose a nice red wine to compliment her steak, and I had a crisp Chardonnay to go with my lobster.
Wheelhouse Bar
Located across from the Crown Grill specialty restaurant, the Wheelhouse Bar was a good spot for before or after dinner drinks, or drinks any time for that matter. Though not enclosed, this bar still tended to be a little quieter since it was out of the way of the main action around the Piazza.
Deck 8
Spellbound
Spellbound by Magic Castle truly a truly a unique concept on the Sun Princess. We started with a meal in a separate section of the Sanctuary Restaurant that included cocktails and wine. Then we moved to the dedicated Spellbound space with its magic tricks and spectacular craft cocktails. The creative presentation of the various drinks was as magical as the sleight of hand.
Crooners
I loved the vibe and decor at Crooners – it was my favorite bar to hang out in, especially in the late afternoon when I could watch the sunset through the impressive sphere windows. The decor was a funky blend of midcentury modern and classic traditional. I especially liked the vintage radios decorating the walls at each end of the space and recognized one that I used to have as a teenager.
A talented musician often played the piano, and the house band could be heard playing a jazz set or two in the late afternoon.
Makato Ocean
I ate some delicious sushi at this casual eatery on the Sun Princess. But, I also had one of the best Gin and Tonics I’ve ever tried made with Roku gin, Indian tonic, yuzu, shiso, cucumber, and watermelon radish.
Umai Teppanyaki
Our meal at Umai Teppanyaki started with cocktails that were special just to that restaurant. My Umai Pink cocktail was on the sweet side, so I chose to enjoy it with my mochi ice cream dessert. My daughter on the other hand finished her Full of Soul cocktail pretty quickly.
Sabatini’s Italian Trattoria
I always like Sabatini’s for the really good Italian food, but this beautiful specialty restaurant also had its own signature drinks on the menu. We opted for a couple of nice glasses of wine to go with our pasta.
Wake View Terrace Bar
The Wake View Terrace was a nice, laid back spot to relax with a book or take a nap in the sun (with sunscreen). The bar was available to satisfy all drink requests.
Deck 9
Alfredo’s
Along with its special pizzas, this casual restaurant also had a nice selection of Italian inspired drinks.
Promenade Bar
Outside The Eatery, the Promenade Bar was available for alcoholic drinks and sodas to accompany the food from the nearby buffet, the Americana Diner, or the Promenade Pizzeria.
Americana Grill
Besides serving up typical American diner grub, the Americana Grill menu offered typical diner drinks like milkshakes and floats. I tried the Coffee and Donuts milkshake made with tiramisu ice cream, espresso, and milk, and topped with a sugar donut – a yummy liquid breakfast in a glass. The food and drinks served here were included in the standard cruise fare.
Deck 15 and 16
Signature Suite Lounge
Guests staying in suites or Sanctuary Class cabins had access to a two story lounges which provided a variety of drinks and food throughout the day.
Deck 17
Sea View Bar
On the deck outside the Dome pool, this bar quenched the thirst for all those using the many lounge chairs nearby.
Cascades Bar
Near the entrance to the Dome, the Cascades Bar was usually a quiet spot to get a drink or enjoy the views. It was also a good place to sit while waiting for a show to begin in the Dome.
Lido Bar
Located next to Lido Greens, Lido Tacos, Lido Grill, and Lido Pizza, this poolside bar provided a large variety of alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages to go along with all those food choices.
The MIX
Another bar in the pool area with fun bar staff. My daughter and I toasted the beginning of our cruise with drinks made by one of their mixologists.
Coffee and Cones
Also located in the pool area, the ice cream served here was included in the standard fare, but the specialty coffees, specialty juices, the Premium Desserts, and the Granitas were an extra charge. I tried the orange granita but found it a little too sweet for my taste.
Love by Brito
This specialty dining experience also came with its own love inspired sparkling wine and cocktail creations. Our meal started with the special Love by Brito bubbly as an aperitif.
Accompanying the dessert, I had the Espresso My Love and my daughter had the Strawberry Love Potion, and we liked both. The meal also started with a one of a kind Love By Brito sparkling wine.
Deck 18
Sun Bar
This bar served up drinks to those lounging around the pools on the upper deck.
Sanctuary Club
This dedicated deck and pool area was reserved for guests staying in suites or Sanctuary Class cabins. This area also had its own bar.
With so many drinks options on this cruise ship, I barely scratched the surface when it came to choices on the new Sun Princess, but I liked what I did try.
