My “Hot Prismatic Star” Quilt

My first paper pieced quilt in hot shades of pink, red, yellow and purple. This Prismatic Star quilt certainly brightens up my room on a dreary rainy day.

This Prismatic Star Pattern by Judy Niemeyer was my first attempt at paper piecing. I started the quilt when I took a class at her retreat center in Kalispell, Montana.

Initially, I was planning a black background, but as I laid out the quilt blocks on the design wall, that just wasn’t working for me. With Judy’s help, I tried out different colors and then settled on red. Not surprising since red is my favorite color. I am not sure I am completely happy with the final result, but my husband likes it.

For the back, I used some of the leftover strips of fabric as a filler to make it more interesting. I share other interesting ways to piece a quilt back in my post, 18 Ideas for a Unique Pieced Quilt Back.

The wonderful custom quilting was done by my friend Cindy Carey at North Star Longarm Quilting.

I was also privileged to have this quilt exhibited in the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show a few years back.

This is also one of the largest quilts I have ever finished.
